Penticton RCMP said officers seized a handgun and arrested a man following a traffic stop earlier this month.
Police said a frontline officer arrested the man on Wednesday, July 15, during an investigation into an alleged Motor Vehicle Act offence. During the investigation, officers located and seized a handgun.
The man has been charged with firearms-related offences and obstruction. He remained in custody as of Wednesday.
“This arrest is an excellent example of the proactive work our frontline officers do every day to keep our community safe,” said Staff Sgt. Scott Hanry, NCO/ic of General Investigative Services with Penticton RCMP.
“The officer’s attention to detail, quick decision-making, and professionalism resulted in a prohibited firearm being removed from our streets and a person being taken into custody. We commend the officer for their outstanding work.”
Police said no further information will be released because the matter is before the courts.
