Highway 1 remained closed Wednesday between Boston Bar and Boothroyd, B.C., as out-of-control wildfires prompted evacuation orders and threatened nearby communities.
Cooler temperatures and lighter winds helped crews gain ground overnight on the out-of-control Saw Creek wildfire near Lytton, allowing evacuation orders affecting much of the community to be downgraded to alerts.
British Columbia’s auditor general said the province’s lack of coordination and oversight slowed the recovery of Lytton after a wildfire destroyed most of the village in 2021.
