Most residents of Summerland are now allowed to return home as an evacuation order is downgraded to an Alert for the District.

The Map below shows the updates evacuation alert and orders. Yellow areas remain on alert and Red areas are still evacuated.
The return to Summerland wont feel normal as BC Wildfire Operations (BCWFS) still continue on the out of control Bald Range fire. Residents returning home are warned to obey all posted traffic signs and temporary traffic controls, and follow directions from response personnel, who continue to manage ongoing risks, including danger trees and rockfall along area roads impacted by fire.
The Summerland Secondary School field has been used as a helicopter landing area for wildfire operations. BCWFS says air operations will be moved to the Penticton Airport by August 21. Incident Command for wildfire operations at the Summerland Arena and Curling Club will shift Penticton over the next week.
Residents returning are also being told they can expect to see smouldering ground fire and smoke from within the fire perimeter over the coming weeks. BCWFS says this is common following large wildfires and is typically not a concern. Smoke rising from green, unburned areas outside the fire perimeter should be reported immediately by calling 1-800-663-5555 toll-free, *5555 on a cell phone or through the BC Wildfire Service mobile app.
The Bald Range fire is now at a size of 24,096 Hectares and remains out of control. 382 firefighting personnel are working on the fire with 15 helicopters, 68 pieces of heavy equipment and structure protection.
