Temporary service interruption at South Okanagan General Hospital emergency department

Residents of Oliver and the surrounding area will need to seek emergency care elsewhere for several hours while South Okanagan General Hospital’s emergency department temporarily closes.

Emergency services at the hospital will be unavailable from 5 p.m. Tuesday, July 7 until 7 a.m. Wednesday, July 8. During the closure, patients requiring emergency care should go to Penticton Regional Hospital.

All other inpatient services at South Okanagan General Hospital will continue as usual.

Anyone experiencing a life-threatening medical emergency, including chest pain, difficulty breathing or severe bleeding, should call 911 for transport to the nearest appropriate available facility.

People who are unsure whether they need emergency care can call HealthLink BC at 811 or visit HealthLinkBC.ca for non-emergency health advice from nurses, dietitians and pharmacists 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Interior Health advised residents to plan accordingly during the temporary service interruption.
