National Range Day brings shooting sports showcase to Summerland

Residents curious about shooting sports, hunting and firearms safety will have an opportunity to learn more when the Summerland Sportsman’s Association hosts a National Range Day event on Saturday, June 13.

National Range Day is an annual celebration of Canada’s shooting sports community, with clubs across the country opening their facilities to the public and providing opportunities for newcomers to learn about range safety, sport shooting and responsible firearms use.

The Summerland event will feature club volunteers and range safety officers who will be available to answer questions, provide safety instruction and introduce visitors to the club’s activities.

“National Range Day is one of my favourite days of the year. It’s a fantastic opportunity to showcase how much safe, responsible fun you can have at a range by bringing your friends and neighbours to try out sport shooting and archery,” said BCWF Development and Advocacy Manager Monte Clarke.

“There’s a huge educational component to National Range Day where Range Safety Officers give everyone training on range safety protocols to ensure that newcomers feel safe and confident when stepping onto a shooting range for the first time. And the BCWF’s clubs are incredible. Everyone I’ve brought has wanted to join the club and keep coming back!”

The B.C. Wildlife Federation said National Range Day helps connect communities with local clubs and provides an opportunity to learn about shooting sports in a supervised environment.
