The next general local election is on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2026. Now is the time to make sure you’re registered and ready to vote.
If you’re new to British Columbia, have recently moved or changed your name, check that your voter registration is up to date.
Be ready to vote
Elections BC maintains the voters list used for municipal elections in British Columbia. You can register, update your information or confirm you’re already registered by visiting www.elections.bc.ca/ovr or by calling 1-800-661-8683.
Advance voter registration closes at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2026. If you’re not registered by then, you can still register when you vote if you meet the eligibility requirements.

Registering in advance helps ensure your information is current and makes voting quicker and easier on election day. It also helps you receive important election information before voting begins.

Who can vote?
To vote in a B.C. municipal election, you must meet the eligibility requirements established under provincial legislation.
To be eligible to vote in the 2026 general local elections you must be:
- 18 years of age or older when you register to vote, or will be 18 years or older on general voting day
- A Canadian citizen
- Have been a resident of B.C. for at least six months immediately before you register to vote
- A resident of the jurisdiction where you are voting (resident elector) or the owner of real property in the jurisdiction where you are voting for at least 30 days prior (non-resident elector)
- Not be disqualified under the Local Government Act, or any other enactment from voting in local elections or be otherwise disqualified by law
