Update 10:27 p.m:

The south Okanagan has its new mayor and councils as official results are now in for Summerland, Penticton, Osoyoos, Oliver and Okanagan Falls with some results coming as a shock.

Dan Ashton has been elected as the next mayor of Penticton with 45.3 per cent of the vote.

Isaac Gilbert, Andrew Jakubeit, Subrina Monteith, Jason Reynen, Shannon Stewart, Riley Thompson, have all been elected as councillors in penticton.

Also coming in from the city of Penticton the Referendum to remove a historic trust covering portions of Penticton Trade and Convention Centre has failed with residents voting overwhelmingly to keep the historic trust in place.

Doug Holmes has been elected as the next mayor of Summerland with 71.6 per cent of the vote.

Erin Trainer, Doug Patan, Richard Barkwill, Adrienne Betts, Amie Harbour and Taryn Davis have been elected as councillors.
Matt Taylor has been named the first ever mayor in Okanagan Falls with 64.6 per cent of the vote.

Amy Bydal, Allison Symons, Randy Ludwar and Eugene Dettling will make up the first ever council in the newly formed municipality.
Wayne Anderson has been elected as the next mayor of Oliver with 45.5 per cent of the vote.

Dermott Hutton, Tom Szalay, Warren Brown and JP (John-Paul) Vala have been elect as councillors while Bhupinder Dhaliwal and Rick Machial have been elected as water councillors.

Dustin Sikora has been elected as the next mayor of Osoyoos with 38.7 per cent of the vote.

Frank J Zandvliet, Johnny Cheong, Pat Wycherley and J.F. (Jean Francois) Launier have been elected as councillors while Sarabjit Rai and Jim Shogren have been elected as water councillors.

Original: Polls have now closed in municipal elections across the South Okanagan, leaving residents waiting to find out who will make up their city or regional district representatives.

One race to keep a close eye on is the mayor’s race in Penticton, as incumbent Mayor Julius Bloomfield and former mayor and MLA Dan Ashton are expected to be in a tight race for the top job. Also running for the office are Corey Hunslow, Jordan Iannone, Beverley Kohler and Ashley Murrin.

In addition to council, Penticton residents also voted in a referendum on whether to remove a historic trust affecting a portion of the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre lands, with the outgoing council proposing a potential hotel attached to the PTCC.

Elsewhere, Osoyoos is set to elect a new mayor, as incumbent Sue McKortoff announced earlier that she would not be seeking re-election.

Summerland will be waiting to see whether incumbent Mayor Doug Holmes, who led the municipality through the Bald Range wildfire, or Lake Dennison will take the district’s mayor’s seat.

Okanagan Falls is also set to name its first mayor and council, with Tyler Johnsen, Glen Innes and Matt Taylor vying to become mayor of the newly formed municipality.
