Andrew Weaver is running as a CentreBC candidate in Oak Bay-Gordon Head, the same Victoria-area riding he previously represented as a B.C. Green MLA.
Weaver is a former climate researcher at the University of Victoria. He was elected in 2013 as the first B.C. Green MLA to serve in the legislature.
He led the Greens from 2015 to 2020, during which time the party gained two more seats in the legislature.
He left the Green caucus in January 2020, citing health matters affecting his family, but continued to serve as an independent for the rest of his term.
Newly appointed CentreBC leader Elenore Sturko welcomed Weaver to the team.
“I am very pleased to welcome Andrew as a candidate, and I know his experience will be an asset in the BC legislature,” she said.
Sturko was announced as CentreBC leader earlier this week.
The Surrey-Cloverdale MLA was first elected in a 2022 by-election in Surrey South as a member of the B.C. Liberals, who later rebranded as B.C. United.
Sturko crossed the floor to the B.C. Conservatives in 2024 and was elected in Surrey-Cloverdale later that year.
She was removed from the Conservative caucus by then-leader John Rustad in 2025 and sat as an independent until joining CentreBC last week.
Premier David Eby announced a snap election Tuesday, two years after the last provincial election.
Final Voting Day is Oct. 24.
