BC Hydro said it restored power to about 2,700 customers affected by the Bradley Creek wildfire after crews repaired infrastructure damaged by the wildfire and a windstorm.
The utility said power was restored in phases as crews repaired and rebuilt sections of the electricity system. Nearly 75 power poles damaged by the wildfire and severe weather have been repaired or replaced, BC Hydro said.
About 230 customers remained without power in the area, with crews continuing restoration work.
In the Kelly Lake area, BC Hydro said power had been restored to another 84 customers. Crews continued to assess damage and restore service to other customers affected by outages.
BC Hydro said it had also contacted the District of Summerland and FortisBC to offer support during the wildfire emergency. The utility does not provide electricity service within Summerland.
BC Hydro encouraged customers to prepare for wildfire emergencies and extended outages by having a household emergency plan and grab-and-go kit and by taking steps to reduce wildfire risks around their homes.
Customers evacuated for five days or longer may qualify for an automatic credit for electricity used during the evacuation period, BC Hydro said.
