A second type of halva sold in British Columbia has been recalled due to salmonella.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency said Friday the latest recall is for Shirezza brand Tahini Halva with Date Sap.
It said the product was sold in B.C. and Ontario in 400 gram packages with the best before date labelled as “BB 12-27.”
The CFIA said the recall was triggered by the company, Hafez International Trading Inc., and there have been no reported illnesses.
It follows a similar May 5 recall of Hafez brand “Sugerless” Halva with Date Syrup by the same company, also due to salmonella.
The product was sold in B.C. and Ontario in 400 gram packages, with the best before date labelled as “BB 12_26.”
CFIA said the recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the location where they were purchased.
The agency warns that food contaminated with salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick. It can be especially dangerous for young children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems.
