B.C. to test emergency alert system this Wednesday

A test of British Columbia’s emergency alert system is set for 1:55 p.m. Pacific time on May 6.

The province said Monday the alert will be sent to all compatible cellphones and will interrupt radio and television broadcasts.

It said the message will be clearly identified as a test and there will be no action required from the public.

The BC Emergency Alert system is tested twice a year.

The system can be used to alert the public in emergency situations like wildfires, floods, landslides, tsunamis and extreme-heat emergencies.
