SUMMERLAND, B.C. — A new medical clinic for Summerland is one step closer after a $1-million gift from the Summerland Health Care Auxiliary to the South Okanagan Similkameen Medical Foundation.
The Summerland Health Care Auxiliary Medical Clinic, planned for 13201 Victoria Road North, is intended to expand access to primary care, support physician recruitment, and retention, and connect more residents with ongoing medical care. The project is being led and operated by the South Okanagan Healthcare Society.
The Auxiliary’s gift will support construction and renovations, medical equipment, furnishings, and infrastructure required for physician-based care.
“This gift reflects the extraordinary commitment Summerland residents have to one another,” said Ian Lindsay, CEO of the SOS Medical Foundation. “The Auxiliary’s volunteers and supporters have spent years turning everyday generosity into a remarkable investment in local healthcare. Their gift brings the vision for this clinic an important step closer.”
Through donated items, purchases and countless volunteer hours, the Auxiliary says it has turned everyday acts of generosity into a major investment in local healthcare.
“This gift was made possible by our volunteers and by the people of Summerland who donate and shop at our Thrift Store,” said Kathy Hogman, President of the Summerland Health Care Auxiliary. “We are incredibly proud that their support will now help strengthen healthcare here at home.”
In recognition of the Auxiliary’s contribution, the clinic will be named the Summerland Health Care Auxiliary Medical Clinic.
The new Summerland clinic is intended to operate as a full-time community medical practice, with a focus on physician recruitment, retention, and patient attachment.
