Organizers of the Penticton Peach Festival are trying to make the most out of an uncertain situation unfolding because of the out of control Bald Range Wildfire.
Around 10 a.m. it was announced all programming activities for today at the Penticton Peach Festival were cancelled due to the unfolding wildfire situation.
Now organizers are turning an unexpected cancellation into an opportunity to support those impacted by the ongoing wildfire and evacuations in the region.
It was announced this afternoon Peach Fest Fire Relief will take place tonight in the East Ballroom at the Penticton Lakeside Resort & Conference Centre.
The concert will fundraise for everyone impacted by the wildfire with a performance by Canadian pop artist virginia to vegas.
“In ordinary times, Peach Festival brings our community together to celebrate. In extraordinary times like these, coming together means something different. Tonight is about supporting our neighbours, recognizing the incredible people responding to this emergency, and doing what we can to help those impacted,” said Peach Festival President Shawna Tinga.
Organizers say ddmission is by donation, with a minimum $10 contribution. A 50/50 draw will also support the fundraising effort, with proceeds going toward those impacted by the wildfire.
