Vees Weekend Wrap

The Penticton Vees record setting 14 game win streak for an expansion team came to an end on Friday night at the SOEC, but already a new streak has started with 2 victories following the Friday defeat.

FRIDAY – Kamloops 5, Penticton 2.

-A quick start for the Blazers on Friday at the SOEC, as they led 2-0 after the 1st period. A late game rally from the Vees made it close, before 2 empty netters sealed a 5-2 Kamloops win, and the end of Penticton’s 14 game win streak. The story was Blazer goaltender Logan Edmonstone who made 47 saves, as the Vees outshot Kamloops 49-25. Matteo Danis and Ethan Weber were the only Vees to find the back of the net.

SATURDAY – Penticton 5, Portland 3.

-The Vees got back on track Saturday at the SOEC w/ a big 4-0 lead over the Winterhawks, who had a late game rally to make it close but Penticton prevailed 5-3 to get back into the win column. Louie Wehmann scored twice for the Vees, while the line of Jacob Kvasnicka, Ryden Evers and Tristan Petersen combined for 9 points, with each player scoring once, and adding 2 assists.

SUNDAY – Penticton 5, Seattle 4 (Shootout).

-Penticton won their 2nd straight on the weekend, but, needed some extra time to get the victory. The Vees had a 4-0 lead, but Seattle rallied with 4 straight goals to even the game and send into the extra frame. Overtime solved nothing, so a shootout was needed where Brittan Alstead scored the only goal, sending Penticton to the win. Alstead also scored in regulation for the Vees, and added 2 assists for a 3 point game. Diego Johnson also had 3 points with 2 goals and an assist, while Brady Birnie rounded out the Penticton scoring.

-Vees are back at in 2 nights, as they travel to Spokane on Wednesday to play the Chiefs.
